CREW

     MOVIE MAKER'S INTENT

When dealing with the question of whether the AI had good intentions of making the world a better place or was bent on taking control using his army of hybrids to do so, the Director states "What I want people to do is not to take a side, but to be confused as to what side they should be on - because they want to take a side." [1]

When dealing with the idea of artificial intelligene and "the approach of the singularity, the director explained that all that really matters is the person controlling it" stating that good and bad could come from it. [1]

To make the point that this subject is complicated and could go either way, the director states that the "characters in the film's opinions morph and change, and it's not clear who the bad guys are and who the good guys are." [2]

The Director also speaks about the ending of the film, "with its image of a mainframe shutting down and a sunflower coming to life, is a tip of the hat to the notion that it might not be bad to shut stuff off once in awhile and appreciate what happens when you put a seed in the ground." [2]

We as a team sense that both sides of the argument are provided in this film. With AI Will at the end stating that it really was Will all along and that all he wanted was for the betterment of society, but also with the hybrids attacking the soldiers and the hybrids being taken over by Will. The film provides the audience with a complicated subject and succeeds in showing that the answers are not simple, and that the future of our technologies will pose such questions.
