     EVALUATING SCENARIOS

Evaluating the scenario of human and AI merging

Based on the Social Contract theory, if everybody merged with advanced computer machinery we would make the network more efficient and better. More nodes would provide more routes of accessibility and prevent having a single point of failure in the system. Not only that, but mankind in general could have a higher processing power and be able to think and trade information more effectively. Of course, if everybody hooked up to the network, we might lose our sense of humanity, but that is a philosophical question. Overall, it seems that based off of the Social Contract Theory, it would beneficial to have everybody linked up to a massive AI network.

Rawl's Theory of Justice

According to Rawl's theory of justice it would not approve of the plan to merge everybody into the network. First, it violates each person's right to live and freedom of thought. Will, in the movie, is shown taking over the minds and bodies of workers seemingly at random without their consent. If everybody was hooked up to the network, everyone's ideas would be accessible to the lead AI, Will in this case. This violates the principle of justice and would definitely not be allowed. The network would benefit those less well off in society, but that does not excuse the idea that it violates a core right guaranteed to each human being.
